Agra’s first MP Seth Achal Singh

It is impossible that the name of Seth Achal Singh is not mentioned during the Lok Sabha elections in Agra, Uttar Pradesh. A name which drew a line in the election strategy which no one could cross till now. He was MP from Agra seat for five consecutive terms from 1952 to 1972. He also raised his voice against the British in the movement for independence.
Seth Achal Singh is known not only for his contribution to the country’s freedom movement and regional development but also for his dominance in elections. His dominance in the election field continued for almost 25 years. He won five consecutive Lok Sabha elections.
He was considered close to the Nehru family. Moti Lal Nehru was his family’s lawyer. Because of this he had direct relations with Congress. It is said that he did not hold any big rallies or road shows. Would campaign by holding street meetings. A large number of people used to come on foot to listen to him. From 1952 to 1972, he was elected MP from Agra Lok Sabha seat (then known as Agra District (West)).
Krishnadutt Paliwal also defeated
In the first Lok Sabha election, he defeated Krishnadutt Paliwal by a huge vote. Even in the year 1957, Krishnadutt Paliwal lost to him. Krishna Dutt Paliwal did not contest the third Lok Sabha election. Then Seth Achal Singh faced Haji Haider Bakhsh of RPI and won by about 50,000 votes.
In the fourth Lok Sabha election, the opposing candidate changed but the election result remained the same and Herorani was defeated in the year 1967 election. In the fifth election, he defeated Bharatiya Kranti Dal (BKD) candidate Baburam Singhal. Politics changed and in the elections held in 1977, a wave of Janata Party arose, Shambhunath Chaturvedi defeated them.
